Why we chose what we chose.
How to read this page
Each entry explains what an ingredient is, the amount in one 12g scoop, why we chose the particular form, and — where one exists — the health claim authorised for it in the UK, in its exact wording.
Any research we cite is about individual ingredients. It is not evidence about Epithe. itself. The finished product has not been clinically tested, and we don't suggest otherwise.
250mg elemental magnesium · 67% RI
Magnesium bisglycinate
What it is
Magnesium is an essential mineral. In the bisglycinate form each magnesium ion is bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine, a type of compound known as a chelate.
Why this form
We chose a chelated form over magnesium oxide or citrate because it mixes cleanly in cold water and has a neutral taste in a fruit-flavoured powder. It also lets us state the elemental magnesium plainly: 250mg, two-thirds of the reference intake, rather than a headline weight of the compound.
Authorised claims
Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Magnesium contributes to normal psychological function.

Vitamin D3
What it is
Vitamin D3, cholecalciferol, is the form of vitamin D the skin makes in sunlight. Ours is extracted from lichen, which keeps the formula vegan.
Why this form
D3 rather than D2 because it is the form most widely used in supplements, and lichen-derived D3 is the vegan option that doesn't rely on lanolin. 25µg is five times the reference intake and well within the tolerable upper intake level for adults set by the European Food Safety Authority, which is 100µg a day.
Authorised claims
Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

Zinc
What it is
Zinc is an essential trace mineral that the body cannot store in quantity, so it needs a regular dietary supply.
Why this form
Zinc bisglycinate, the same chelated format as the magnesium, so the two minerals behave consistently in the powder. The amount is set at exactly the reference intake: enough to count, no more.
Authorised claims
Zinc contributes to normal cognitive function. Zinc contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

Vitamin C
What it is
Vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin. Because the body doesn't make it, it has to come from food or supplements.
Why this form
Sodium ascorbate is a buffered form of vitamin C with a near-neutral pH. In a drink powder that's a practical choice: it doesn't make the mix sharp or acidic, which matters for taste when raspberry and apple are doing the flavouring.
Authorised claims
Vitamin C contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system.
5g
L-glutamine
What it is
L-glutamine is an amino acid, one of the most abundant in the body, and found in protein-containing foods.
Why this form
We use the free-form L-glutamine amino acid at 5g, a disclosed and meaningful quantity rather than a token inclusion. This is the main reason Epithe. is a powder: 5g doesn't fit in a capsule.
Authorised claims
None. There is no authorised health claim for L-glutamine, so we make none. Named, not claimed.
3g
Agave inulin
What it is
Inulin is a soluble plant fibre, a type of fructan. Ours is organic and extracted from the blue agave plant, Agave tequilana.
Why this form
Agave inulin dissolves readily in cold water and has a mild, slightly sweet taste, which suits a drink powder. 3g gives a disclosed fibre amount alongside the other foundational ingredients.
Authorised claims
None. The authorised claim that exists for inulin applies specifically to native chicory inulin, so we don't apply it to agave inulin. Named, not claimed.
20 billion CFU across five strains
Live cultures
What it is
Five strains of live bacteria, 4 billion CFU of each: Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus helveticus, Bifidobacterium longum and Lactobacillus plantarum. CFU means colony-forming units, the standard measure of live cultures.
Why this form
Five named strains, each at the same disclosed count, rather than an undisclosed blend. The strains were selected from those with an established history of use in food supplements; the strain designation is given where the supplier provides it.
Authorised claims
None. There is no authorised health claim for live cultures, so we make none. Named, not claimed.
